Residency Application Questions

To help you prepare your application, we include the application questions below.

Question 1

The SPJF Residencies are open to scholars and creators who are engaged in constructing (or creating frameworks for others to construct) alternative humanistic narratives that expand our understanding of what literature can be and the ways that it can help us imagine and enact just futures. We especially are seeking individuals who have a track record of work focused on addressing social justice issues facing historically marginalized groups—including Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ communities as well as Persons with Disabilities—ideally, with an emphasis on recognizing intersectional identities and experiences within these communities).

Please provide a summary of your work to this point and how it has addressed social justice issues facing historically marginalized communities. (max 500 words).

Question 2

Provide a narrative of the proposed project, including details of method and theory as necessary. (max 750 words)

Question 3

Provide a statement of the project’s significance to the theme of “speculative play.” (max 500 words).

Question 4

How does your proposed project construct (or create frameworks for others to construct) alternative humanistic narratives that expand our understanding of what literature can be and the ways that it can help us imagine and enact just futures? (max 750 words)
